Everyone can do with having a good aul laugh but I have to say,
I had a belly full of laughs when I went to see Mrs. Brown’s Boy’s first
homecoming show in the O2, Dublin with my Nan and my other half. The place was jam-packed
with people of all ages and the atmosphere was full of excitement.
The show started with Mrs. Brown’s (Brendan O’Carroll) voice
from behind the curtains stating that in case of a fire; here are the steps you
should take... big fecking steps out them doors! This started the crowd off
with laughter that was to be continued throughout the night but then followed
the words ‘It’s good to be home’ which echoed an emotional sentiment of huge
cheer and applause all around the O2...
It sure was good to have them home.
The show is based around many characters of the Irish Brown
family and friends; Agnes Brown, her sons Rory, Mark, Dermot, Trevor, her daughter
Cathy, Grandad, Mark’s wife Betty, Dermot’s wife Maria, Mrs. Brown’s best friend Winnie, Rory’s
husband Dino and Buster Brady who’s Dermot’s best friend and an awful nuisance to
Mrs. Brown! God bless his cotton socks...
The story represents the everyday lives of the Brown family
and friends while being truly hilarious, relatable and a joy to watch. No matter what goes on in any family’s lives,
they are always there for each other and the bond and love they have will never
be broken by anyone.
Obviously the show was scripted but there were many parts
that weren't which made it even funnier and absolutely gas to watch... true
Irish humour and profanity to match! But
you wouldn't change it for the world...
At the end of the show Brendan O’Carroll (as Mrs. Brown) spoke
a heartfelt thank you to certain people in particular in the audience and to all
the fans. Of course the audience were also asked to “help” the Mrs. Brown “holiday
fund” on the way out the door but you wouldn't leave without buying a key ring,
fridge magnet or a t-shirt, just as a memento, just for the love of Mrs. Brown...
Brendan O’Carroll has been so generous to many charities over
the years with his earnings and it’s humbling to see this man who came from
Finglas doing amazingly well for himself and his family but yet keeping ties to
what means most to him.
He brings this heritage, culture and humour to his shows and
it really puts things into perspective while giving the feel good factor to
everyone who watches. With a new film due out next summer and set in Dublin, the laughter is set to continue and I can't wait to see it!
And not forgetting another message that Mrs. Brown teaches us, a very Irish one indeed; if there's someone you’re not too keen on in your life who you're obviously civil towards (cos you have to!) and they say something to you but you're not one bit interested, just reply to them with the words “that’s nice”...
